Associations scramble to build next generation of skilled workers

Some groups pour more resources into workforce development efforts as industries they represent face looming labor shortages

A recent study concluded that as many as 2 million jobs in the U.S. manufacturing sector could go unfilled in the next decade, but Mark Core, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at equipment manufacturer Vermeer, said his company is already feeling the effects of a shrinking labor market, and it is looking to its association for help.

“It continues to be a challenge to find the human capital to complete the tasks we are trying to do in building equipment,” Core told CEO Update.
