Median association CEO compensation is nearly 40% higher than it was during the Great Recession, according to a new CEO Update analysis.

CEO Update compared full-year compensation data for the CEOs of 329 large associations that were included in both our 2019 and 2011 salary reports, capturing 2017 and 2009 data, the latest available for each survey.

Our starting point is 2009 because that’s when the first complete set of tax disclosures that met new IRS Form 990 guidelines was available.
