Dean Garfield will end his nine-year run as CEO of the $14 million-revenue Information Technology Industry Council in February to become head of global public policy for the streaming video service Netflix.

ITI announced Nov. 16 that Garfield was leaving the organization to “start the next chapter of his career” but otherwise was mum about the reason for his departure. Netflix confirmed the CEO’s hiring when contacted by CEO Update. Garfield’s new job means he will likely be based outside the U.S., although Netflix didn’t clarify where that might be.
