Drew Maloney, a former GOP lobbyist and official at the Treasury Department, is expected to be named the next CEO of the $8 million-revenue American Investment Council, Politico reported June 7.

Maloney currently is assistant secretary for legislative affairs at the Treasury Department. AIC did not confirm the news report, saying a decision on a new CEO hasn’t been finalized.

If confirmed, Maloney would succeed Mike Sommers, who is stepping down later this year to become CEO of the $230 million-revenue American Petroleum Institute.

Maloney’s career in politics began while earning a bachelor’s degree in political science at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. He was an  intern in the press office of Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) and, after graduation, worked as a legislative aide in the Virginia General Assembly.
