Executives sought to evolve as their groups’ needs changed

Three CEOs said shifts in job responsibilities needed buy-in from boards and faith in staff to handle day-to-day duties. “I had to spend a lot of time doing management, which is different than leadership,” said Justin Draeger, CEO of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administers. “All of that required some direct interaction and intervention that probably isn’t ideal when you are trying to think of big-picture strategy.”
