Eric Hoplin became CEO of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors in October, just a couple weeks before the Nov. 3 elections that ultimately gave Democrats control of the White House and Congress. But politics wasn’t the first priority for the former Republican activist and first-time association leader.

“The organization was 100% remote (when) I came in,” Hoplin told CEO Update. “There were certainly some challenges because we’re in the middle of a pandemic, places are closed, and we’re not certain who’s going to be leading the country.”

Like many new CEOs, Hoplin met with members individually, albeit virtually given the circumstance of the pandemic. He also took the time to meet with staff one-on-one, although in that case, in-person when possible.
