The American Association for the Advancement of Science has appointed scientist and association executive Sudip Parikh as its next CEO, starting in January 2020.
Parikh currently is a senior vice president and managing director, Americas, at the Drug Information Association. He will succeed former Rep. Rush Holt (D-N.J.) as head of the $99 million scientific society. Holt retired in September after leading AAAS for nearly four years.
Parikh’s association experience is a departure for the group, which has tapped its previous two leaders from government. In an email, the incoming CEO told CEO Update that he believes “the sum total of my experiences has prepared me for leadership at AAAS: scientist, Senate appropriations committee staffer, business executive and association executive.”
