As calls grow to phase out single-use plastics, multiple associations have launched efforts in recent months to reform the nation’s recycling ecosystem and assure consumers that their business members take environmental stewardship seriously.
One such initiative is the Recycling Leadership Council, which brings together 16 associations and the investment firm Closed Loop Partners to brainstorm ways to fix recycling in the U.S. While plastics recycling is not the sole focus of the council, which was announced in January, many of the group’s members represent businesses whose consumer products come packaged in plastic.
