For anyone who wants to advance in their career and perhaps make a move one day, Conrad Woody has a question: “How are you treating people?”

“At this point, people are just trying to survive,” said Woody, a partner and head of Odgers Berndtson’s U.S. corporate and government affairs practice in Washington, D.C. His portfolio for the executive search and consulting firm includes government affairs, communications, economic development and trade association CEO and leadership roles.

“You don’t know where people are mentally. You don’t know if they have somebody that died of COVID. You don’t know if they’re stressed out. You don’t know if they’re going through a divorce.

“Are you really taking into account the human element? … Are you being authentic in your connections?”
