When Carolyn Grant was making a career transition—away from a tenured position in academia—she envisioned her ideal vocation: working at a museum, preferably with music. Turns out she was in the right place at the right time for the right job.
Grant spotted a help wanted ad for a new museum planned by the National Association of Music Merchants in Carlsbad, Calif. Sixteen years later, there’s still no place she would rather be.
“To this day, every morning I wake up and cannot believe my good fortune,” said Grant, executive director of the Museum of Making Music. “I cannot get enough of this place. I’m here almost seven days a week.”
