While many association executives jumped into the nonprofit sector after a life in public office, Chrys Kefalas is hoping to do just the opposite.

Kefalas, 36, is running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Democrat Barbara Mikulski, who has announced she won’t seek re-election in 2016. The first-time candidate is vice president of executive communications at the National Association of Manufacturers, where he is chief speechwriter for CEO Jay Timmons.
